Shortsville Meadows, located at 45 East Avenue in the village of Shortsville, attracted a team of 13 volunteers from Canandaigua National Bank & Trust (CNB) to assist with Spring clean-up through the United Way’s Day of Caring on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Volunteers worked with staff and residents of Providence Housing Development Corporation at Shortsville Meadows raking, mulching, and cleaning the residential community.
The Day of Caring is a community-wide event sponsored by the United Way of Ontario County that provides businesses and groups of individuals with an opportunity to give back to their community on one day and help a not-for-profit organization of their choice.
“It’s a great way for businesses and the community to build relationships with one another and have fun doing something that matters,” commented Arden Simeone-Culver, Property Manager at Shortsville Meadows of Providence Housing Development Corporation. “It also helps us raise awareness that we offer affordable housing on great properties like this one in Ontario County.”
“It was humbling and rewarding to be able to help the community that we live, work and play in,” remarked Kim Sorel of CNB, and her co-worker Jan Shrader added, “Volunteering was fun and was a great team-building experience.” Resident Terry Millerd was thankful to see the volunteers at Shortsville Meadows and added, “It’s so nice that they cleaned my windows. I’m crippled and it’s very hard for me to get outside and clean.“ United Way gives people like Mrs. Sorel, Mrs. Shrader and Ms. Millerd the chance to get to know one another and share a great experience within their community.
